The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal results. The announcement was made on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, by the Registrar/Chief Executive, Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, at the Council’s Headquarters in Minna.

BREAKING: NECO Releases 2025 SSCE Internal Results

The results reflect the performance of students who sat for the 2025 SSCE Internal (May/June) exams, which were held earlier from June 16 to July 25, 2025.

Out of 1,367,210 candidates who registered, 1,358,339 actually took part in the examination. Among these, 818,492 candidates, or 60.26%, secured at least five credits including Mathematics and English Language

For broader success irrespective of performance in the two core subjects, 1,144,496 candidates, which is about 84.26%, earned five credits and above.

NECO reported a significant reduction in examination malpractice: only 3,878 candidates were involved, compared to the higher figure in 2024. This represents a drop of about 61.58% in reports of malpractice.

NECO also noted that 1,622 candidates with various special needs — including hearing impairment, visual impairment, albinism, and low vision — participated in the exams.

However, communal clashes disrupted exam sessions in eight schools in Lamurde Local Government Area, Adamawa State, affecting 13 subjects and 29 papers. Those results have been temporarily withheld pending further evaluation.

Geographically, Kano led with the highest number of candidates (5.02%) meeting five credits including English and Maths, followed by Lagos and Oyo States. This performance shows state-level variation in student outcomes.

Meanwhile, about 64,000 candidates sat for the NECO entrance examination into Federal Unity Schools as part of the broader NECO activity during this period. (Pending official confirmation from NECO for verified numbers.)

BREAKING: NECO Releases 2025 SSCE Internal Results

In conjunction with the results release, NECO will host its Productivity Award Ceremony on Thursday, 18 September 2025, starting at 10 a.m. at its Headquarters in Minna. The event is expected to honour newly retired staff members for their service.

The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) will present gift items to the retirees in appreciation of their dedication and contribution.

Analysis of the Results

The 2025 results reflect a positive trend overall, particularly due to the substantial pass rate in core subjects, the reduced malpractice incidence, and the participation of special-needs candidates under inclusive policies.

Key challenges remain: delayed exam results in previous years, disruption for students in affected schools, infrastructural issues, and ensuring fairness and transparency. NECO’s quick publication and handling of irregularities will be closely scrutinized by students, parents, and educational stakeholders.

What Students Should Do Next

  • Check results as soon as possible via the official NECO portal using your registration number and token.
  • Verify your results in core subjects, especially English and Maths, since these are often required for admission into tertiary institutions.
  • Keep an eye on announcements from NECO for any re-examination or follow-up exam schedules (especially for schools affected by disruptions).
  • Retirees and NASU members should plan to attend the Productivity Award Ceremony on 18 September to honor contributions of long-serving staff.

The publication of the 2025 NECO SSCE Internal results marks an important milestone for education in Nigeria. With a pass rate of over 60% including in essential subjects like English and Mathematics, and reduced reports of malpractice, there are signs of progress. However, the true test will be whether the results translate into improved learning outcomes, better tertiary admissions, and sustained educational reforms. Students, parents, and institutions alike should use these results as both a measure of achievement and a prompt to demand more from the educational system. Stay informed, stay prepared. Good luck to all candidates.
