Catholic Congregation Dismisses Reverend Sister
, weeks after her controversial Facebook post challenging the Catholic Church’s treatment of women religious.
Annastasia revealed the development on her Facebook page, stating that she received the dismissal letter on September 24, 2025, though it was dated July 21, 2025. She added that she was given a token of ₦100,000, only to return and find her belongings already packed outside her room, with her religious habits taken away.
Although she did not disclose the exact reason for her dismissal, Annastasia expressed gratitude to those who supported her with prayers and encouragement during the challenging period. She reaffirmed her love for the Catholic Church despite the incident.
“Who no get person, get God. I wish to let the public know that on this day, 24th September 2025, I received a letter of dismissal from the Congregation of Mother of Perpetual Help of the Archangels Sisters, dated 21 July 2025. A token of one hundred thousand Naira was given to me.
When I got to the Convent, I met that my belongings were already packed outside the room I stayed in, and the religious habits were taken away. I pulled the one I had on and submitted it as well. Therefore, I am currently not in possession of any property of the Congregation.
From my heart, I sincerely thank everyone who has stood by me in prayer and encouragement through this time. Your love and support mean more than words can express.”
The dismissal may be linked to Annastasia’s August 24, 2025 Facebook post, where she challenged the Catholic Church to do more in protecting reverend sisters, stressing that they are neither ornaments nor commodities for priests to exploit at will. The post went viral at the time, sparking widespread debate within the Catholic community.
Social media users and netizens have continued to drum support for the dismissed reverend sister, praising her courage and calling for reforms in the Catholic Church’s treatment of women religious. Below are some notable reactions:
Emmanuel Junior Zakka
“Dear Reverend Sister Annastasia, I read this piece with such pain in my heart and yet great admiration for your courage to speak out. We who love the Church must not shut up no matter the threat or badmouthing. We must speak out until something is done to address this evil. A better treatment of women religious is possible. Let us ensure it happens for the health of Holy Mother Church.”
O. M. Joseph
“You are a brave and very courageous sister. I agree with what you wrote. So many bishops and priests are arrested and convicted for sexual advances on sisters and altar boys. The Church never gives gender equality and dignity with men. Unless the system changes, the situation will remain the same. I salute you dear sister.”

“Truth can never die. Even if she didn’t bring up this courage to address this, God would still bring someone out to do it. She just answered the call of truth and sincerity. May God help you.”
Chinedu Eugene
“I hear the voice of truth and purity, just like that voice crying from the wilderness. May God heal the wounds that have been inflicted by wolves in sheep clothing hiding under the umbrella of the Church.”
Nicholas Thomas
“Good observation, but why don’t you channel your complaint to the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN)?”
