Boniface Returns to Leverkusen as Medical Issues Stall AC Milan Transfer

Victor Boniface, the 24-year-old Nigerian striker, has returned to Bayer Leverkusen after a potential move to Serie A giants AC Milan was stalled due to medical concerns. The talented forward had spent the past 48 hours in Milan undergoing rigorous health examinations, but he did not receive the all-clear necessary to finalize his transfer.
Boniface Returns to Leverkusen as Medical Issues Stall AC Milan TransferBoniface underwent extensive tests at the renowned La Madonnina Clinic and Galeazzi Hospital in Milan. Despite high expectations that the move would be completed smoothly, Milan’s medical team flagged concerns linked to the player’s injury history. Boniface has previously suffered two cruciate ligament injuries during his spell at Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt in 2019, alongside recurring muscle issues that have occasionally sidelined him in Germany.Given the physical demands of Serie A and the club’s need for reliable fitness in key players, Milan have taken a cautious stance. Sources close to the club indicate that the medical department has recommended additional evaluations before proceeding with the transfer.

Renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the latest twist in the deal on Sunday. Taking to his official platforms, he stated: “After 48 hours in Milano, Boniface will be back in Leverkusen today, waiting for AC Milan’s imminent decision on his medical tests/checks made over the weekend.”

Romano’s update underscores the uncertainty surrounding the move, with Milan yet to make a definitive call on whether the striker will join their ranks or remain in the Bundesliga.

The negotiations between AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen reportedly involved a structured agreement. Milan agreed to pay a €5 million loan fee with a €24 million purchase option, bringing the total potential package to nearly €29 million. The deal was seen as a calculated gamble low risk initially, but with a significant long-term investment if Boniface proved fit and successful in Serie A.

However, the hesitation now highlights the delicate balance clubs must strike between sporting ambition and financial prudence. For Milan, committing to such a fee without medical assurances could prove costly in the long rules

This situation once again illustrates the importance of medical evaluations in today’s high-stakes football transfer market. Clubs are increasingly aware that the success of a transfer does not solely depend on skill or tactical fit but also on a player’s ability to remain healthy over the course of grueling seasons. Multi-million-euro investments hinge on reducing risk, and medical reports often become the final deciding factor.

Boniface’s case serves as a reminder that even the brightest talents can see their careers shaped by past injuries. His powerful performances in Germany had attracted widespread attention, but Serie A demands resilience, and Milan are clearly unwilling to take chances without guarantees.

For now, Boniface will resume training at Bayer Leverkusen while awaiting Milan’s decision. The Bundesliga champions are not under pressure to sell, and the striker remains a key figure in their squad. If Milan eventually withdraws from the deal, Leverkusen will still benefit from keeping a player who was instrumental in their domestic and European campaigns last season.

For Boniface personally, the delay may be frustrating, but it also offers him a chance to prove his durability on the pitch once again. A strong showing in Germany this season could either reignite Milan’s interest or open the door to other European suitors in the future.

The uncertainty surrounding Victor Boniface’s move to AC Milan demonstrates how crucial medical evaluations have become in football transfers. While financial negotiations may reach agreement, it is ultimately the player’s health that seals the deal. For now, the Nigerian forward must wait as Milan deliberates on whether to take the risk or walk away, leaving Bayer Leverkusen with one of Africa’s most promising strikers still in their ranks.
