BREAKING: Sujimoto CEO Olasijibomi Ogundele Breaks Silence After EFCC Declared Him Wanted

The Nigerian real estate and construction industry was thrown into shock after the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declared
Olasijibomi Ogundele, the founder and Chief Executive Officer of
Sujimoto Construction Limited, wanted over allegations of
fraud, diversion of funds, and money laundering. In response, Ogundele released a video statement where he
denied all allegations, insisting that the controversy stems from
a contractual dispute with the Enugu State Government.
He argued that he has been unfairly targeted and vowed to defend his reputation

On Friday, the EFCC posted an official notice on its
X (formerly Twitter) account, signed by its Head of Media and Publicity,
Dele Oyewale. The commission called on Nigerians to
provide credible information regarding Ogundele’s whereabouts. The notice accused Ogundele of being involved in diversion of funds and
money laundering schemes linked to major real estate contracts.
According to the EFCC, anyone with useful information is expected to
report to its zonal offices nationwide or contact its hotline and email.

In a video statement, Ogundele strongly rejected EFCC’s claims,
describing them as “unfair” and “misleading.”

“I am not a thief and I am not a fugitive. This is a contract between my company
and the Enugu State Government.”

He explained that his company was contracted to construct schools and later
design larger projects, including an ambitious 69-storey building.
He highlighted that he mobilized 42 engineers, rented accommodation in Enugu,
and dedicated extensive resources to ensure the project’s success.

Ogundele pointed out that unforeseen economic challenges disrupted the project timeline
and delivery. He cited the rapid increase in cement prices
as a major obstacle.“When we took the contract, cement was ₦7,000. By the time we left, it was ₦10,000.
My staff were sometimes attacked in villages, even shot at, but we kept working.”

According to him, material costs, insecurity, and logistical difficulties dragged a
project that should have taken two years into more than five years.

The Sujimoto boss revealed that the core issue arose from disagreements with the
Enugu State Government over payments and project delivery.
He admitted the matter was taken to court, and at one point,
he agreed to sit with the government to reconcile outstanding financial disputes. However, instead of achieving resolution, Ogundele said,
the situation escalated into the EFCC declaring him wanted.
He expressed disappointment at the handling of the dispute,
which he believes should have been resolved through negotiation rather than a public notice.

The CEO argued that his track record in delivering high-end developments
proves his commitment to excellence and integrity in business,
and he will not allow his brand’s reputation to be destroyed by what
he described as political and contractual misinterpretations.

the allegations. He insisted that he has nothing to hide

As of now, the EFCC has not released further details beyond
its initial wanted notice. The agency has also not clarified
the exact amounts allegedly diverted or provided an official
response to Ogundele’s video defense. However, given the EFCC’s renewed focus on investigating
real estate money laundering and high-profile
private sector figures, industry observers believe this
case may set a precedent for how such contractual disputes
intersect with financial crime investigations.

The controversy has generated widespread debate on social media,
with Nigerians divided over whether Ogundele is being unfairly targeted or
if the EFCC is rightly pursuing an alleged financial crime.Supporters of Ogundele argue that he has built a credible brand
and should be given the opportunity to defend himself, while
critics point to Nigeria’s history of corruption scandals in
the construction and real estate sectors as a reason to
take the EFCC’s claims seriously.

The Sujimoto vs EFCC saga is still unfolding.
While the EFCC insists that Olasijibomi Ogundele is wanted over
allegations of diversion of funds and money laundering,
the businessman maintains that the issue is rooted in a
contractual misunderstanding with the Enugu State Government. As the case progresses, Nigerians and international investors
will be watching closely, as the outcome could have
far-reaching implications for trust in Nigeria’s
real estate sector
, government contracting processes,
and the broader anti-corruption fight.
