VeryDarkMan Calls Out Benue Governor Alia Over Alleged Fraudulent Vehicle Contract Worth ₦1.2 Billion
Nigerian social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has once again taken to social media to call out a top public official over alleged financial misconduct. This time, VDM is accusing the Benue State Governor, Rev. Father Hyacinth Alia, of being involved in a N1.2 billion fraudulent vehicle contract deal.
In a viral video posted on Thursday across multiple social media platforms, the outspoken activist alleged that Governor Alia purchased nine exotic vehicles valued at over one billion naira but has allegedly refused to pay the car dealer responsible for supplying the vehicles.
According to VeryDarkMan, the entire controversy began when the Benue State Government reportedly entered into an agreement to acquire nine luxury vehicles for official purposes. The total cost of the vehicles, according to the activist, was pegged at approximately ₦1.2 billion.
The activist alleged that the car dealer had initially requested full payment before delivery, but Governor Alia’s administration insisted on a “payment upon delivery” arrangement. Trusting the assurances of the government, the dealer allegedly delivered the vehicles as requested.
However, after the delivery of the vehicles, the car dealer was reportedly shocked when he was asked to pay a “1% tender fee” (amounting to about ₦12 million) before his payment could be processed. Despite making repeated attempts to recover his money, the dealer claims he has been repeatedly denied access to the government house.
In the video shared online, VeryDarkMan directly addressed Governor Alia, stating that his administration’s actions were not only unfair but potentially criminal. The activist described the situation as a blatant abuse of power, accusing the governor of frustrating the car dealer’s attempts to get his rightful payment.
“How can a governor of a state order exotic vehicles worth over a billion naira and then refuse to pay the dealer who supplied them?” VDM asked rhetorically in the video. He further alleged that the vehicles had already been distributed to members of the Benue State House of Assembly without the dealer being compensated.
The activist’s bold accusations have since gone viral, drawing widespread reactions from Nigerians on social media who expressed shock and outrage over the alleged misconduct.
According to the activist, Governor Alia reportedly instructed his security operatives to prevent the car dealer from gaining access to the government house whenever he came to demand his payment. This, VDM claimed, is evidence of deliberate efforts to suppress the dealer and deny him justice.
VDM explained that this level of treatment was “unacceptable” and called on anti-corruption agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to immediately investigate the matter.
The video and its allegations quickly sparked discussions online. Many Nigerians expressed disappointment at the news, particularly because Rev. Father Hyacinth Alia is a Catholic priest-turned-politician who came into office on promises of transparency and reform.
Social media comments on Twitter (X), Facebook, and Instagram highlighted frustration with what many describe as “business as usual” among Nigerian political elites. Some praised VDM for his courage in speaking out, while others called for caution and thorough investigation before drawing conclusions.
This is not the first time Martins Vincent Otse (VeryDarkMan) has accused powerful figures of corruption or misconduct. Known for his outspoken persona and viral videos, VDM has built a reputation as a fearless critic of public officials, celebrities, and institutions he perceives as corrupt.
His previous exposés have touched on issues ranging from financial mismanagement to human rights abuses. With over hundreds of thousands of followers across social media platforms, his allegations often go viral and spark national conversations.
As of the time of writing, neither Governor Hyacinth Alia nor his media team have officially responded to the allegations made by VeryDarkMan. This silence has fueled speculation and heightened public interest in the case.
Several commentators have called on anti-corruption bodies to immediately look into the matter, arguing that such an allegation, if proven true, would constitute a serious breach of trust and abuse of public funds.
If the allegations are confirmed, the case could have far-reaching consequences for Governor Alia’s administration and the reputation of the Benue State Government. Observers note that Nigeria has a long history of contract fraud and unpaid government debts to private contractors, which undermine public confidence and stifle business growth.
The case also highlights the challenges car dealers and other vendors face when dealing with government contracts, including delayed payments, unexpected fees, and intimidation.
As the story continues to unfold, many Nigerians are demanding transparency and accountability from Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration. They argue that if the governor truly ordered the vehicles and refused to pay, the matter should be investigated thoroughly, and justice must be served.
VeryDarkMan’s bold exposé has once again shone a spotlight on the need for more transparent governance in Nigeria, as well as the importance of protecting whistleblowers who call out alleged corruption.
