Judge Stands Down Ruling on Nnamdi Kanu’s Medical Fitness

Awomolo added that the DSS had even allowed Kanu access to medical facilities of his choice. However, he warned that transferring Kanu to the National Hospital could pose a security risk, given that the IPOB leader is regarded as a flight risk and may attract potential attacks at the facility.

The Federal Government also questioned the credibility of Prof. Agaji’s report, pointing out that the medical expert neither works at the National Hospital nor provided evidence that Kanu’s current treatment was ineffective. Awomolo described the health claims as “exaggerated” and “in bad faith,” suggesting they were aimed at creating a false narrative about Kanu’s condition.

Awomolo informed the court that the DSS had set up a seven-member panel of medical experts from the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to independently evaluate Kanu’s medical fitness within one week. This, he said, would provide an unbiased assessment of Kanu’s health.

In response, Ikpeazu stated that he was not aware of the panel’s composition. When Justice Omotosho asked if he would agree to allow the NMA panel to issue an independent report, Ikpeazu said he would, provided the court made such an order.

After hearing arguments from both sides, Justice Omotosho decided to stand down the matter for ruling. The next steps in the case will be determined once the judge delivers his decision on Kanu’s medical transfer motion.
